Powerful Words

Our words are powerful. Throughout the Bible we see where words were spoken, and things happened. From the very beginning God spoke the universe into existence. Nothing happened until God spoke. Hebrews 4:12 tells us “For the word of God is quick (alive) and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword.” God’s word to us is a sword; a weapon to use against the enemy. He has given us the authority to use His word. But the words we speak must line up with the word of God in order for it to be effective. Proverbs 18:21 says that “Life and death is in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

We have to choose our words carefully. We have the choice to speak words that will encourage someone, or speak words that will hurt and kill the spirit of another. We can even speak evil words into our own lives. When we say we are sick, God says we are healed; when we say we are weak, God says we are strong; when we say we are poor, God says we are rich; when we say we are defeated, God says we are victorious, we are overcomers, more than conquerors; when we say we are afraid, God says He gives us the power to overcome the enemy. God is our source. He will provide all that we need. We only have to speak His words and believe by faith what His word says, and don’t doubt. Be mindful of the words you speak. Our words can kill or nourish life. It’s up to us to speak life and not death.
